Kowloon Hong Kong, SAR China

The term Kowloon originates from the phrase nine dragons, referring to eight mountains and a Chinese emperor: Kowloon Peak, Tung Shan, Tate's Cairn, Temple Hill, Unicorn Ridge, Lion Rock, Beacon Hill, Crow's Nest and Emperor Bing of Song. The area of Kowloon located south of Boundary Street, along with Stonecutters Island, was handed over by Qing China to the United Kingdom as per the Convention of Peking in 1860. For a long time, this region remained largely untouched, with the British primarily using it for tiger-hunting trips. The area of Kowloon north of Boundary Street (New Kowloon) was rented by the British as part of the New Territories under the Second Convention of Peking in 1898 for a period of 99 years. Within New Kowloon lies Kowloon City, a district of Hong Kong where the Kowloon Walled City once stood. The Kowloon Walled City was torn down in 1993. This same region was known as Guanfuchang (官富場) during the Song dynasty (960–1279). "New Kowloon" continues to be part of the New Territories.
